OPEN GROUNDATHLETICS Room for Everyone!

Open
Ground

Athletics

Move, Work, Play.

A space where every body and every ability belongs. We offer recreational therapy and adaptive sports for individuals and families, plus disability etiquette and inclusion education consulting for schools, colleges, and agencies. Let's break down barriers and create an open ground where we can all play.

What we do

We help people move, play, and feel included. Every session is built around your goals and happens where you are comfortable.

Recreational Therapy

Assessments, plus one-on-one and group sessions with a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Our goal is to build skills and improve quality of life.

Adaptive Sports & Fitness

Adaptive sports and recreation programs, coaching, personal training, and motor skill development.

Consulting & Education

Disability etiquette and inclusion education consulting for schools, colleges, and agencies, plus adaptive PE support, workshops, and contract services.

Where it happens

Open Ground goes to the participant. Services can take place at:

  • Homes
  • Parks
  • Schools
  • Colleges
  • Agencies
  • Recreation facilities
  • Community settings

Many activities are outdoors, and safety comes first. Sessions may be moved or rescheduled for heat, air quality, rain, or other hazards.

Who you'll work with

Open Ground Athletics is led by Marvin Floyd II, CTRS, a Sacramento native who believes everyone deserves a space to move, work, and play.

Adaptive sports are where Marvin does his best work. He has built and coached programs in wheelchair basketball, rugby, goalball, pickleball, and climbing, and has worked with college students, veterans, children, and older adults, in settings from universities and schools to skilled nursing facilities and community programs. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy at California State University, Sacramento, and has also led equity and inclusion trainings for staff and helped secure funding for adaptive sports.

We build on the skills you already have instead of focusing on what's been lost or what you can't do. The goal is simple: more movement, more confidence, and more play.
